Our bread and butter. Everyone hops on a video call to show off finds, ask questions, swap beach reports, and talk through cutting and polishing projects. Cameras optional, rocks encouraged. Great for members who live far from Grand Marais.
What to bring: Your latest finds, a question or two, and a hot drink.
Our first in-person gathering of the season at our sponsor's lakeside resort. We catch up, hunt the beaches while the water is still cold and clear, and kick off the rockhounding year together. Beginners are paired with folks who have been at it a while.
What to bring: Sturdy boots, a bucket or bag, layered clothes, sunscreen, and rocks to show off.
The big one. We road-trip west to Moose Lake Agate Days for one of the best agate shows and digs in the Midwest, then head home along the big lake. Carpools get organized on the online meetings, and we'll share a lodging plan once dates are set.
What to bring: Cash for vendors, a cooler, comfortable shoes, a hat, and space in the trunk for rocks.
Fall storms churn the shoreline and refresh the beaches, which makes this our favorite hunting weekend of the year. We wrap up with a show-and-tell of the season's best finds and a look ahead at next year.
What to bring: Rain gear, warm layers, a headlamp, your finished lapidary pieces, and a snack to share.
