Know before you go
- Rock and mineral collecting is NOT allowed inside Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore — look, don't pocket.
- Collecting on Michigan state-owned beaches is allowed in small amounts for personal use (up to 25 lbs per person per year) — never from private property without permission.
- Many roads to Crisp Point and the Two Hearted are gravel; check conditions before you go.
- Cell service is spotty out here — download your maps ahead of time.
- Lake Superior is cold and rough after storms. Keep an eye on the waves.
