A tiny, wonderful museum devoted to Lake Superior agates; a must-stop for new rockhounds.

Two Hearted River Beach
The wide sand-and-gravel beach where the Two Hearted River meets Lake Superior, reached by the footbridge from the Mouth of the Two Hearted River State Forest Campground. A favorite agate and beach-glass hunting stretch — walk east or west along the waterline after a storm. Hemingway country.

Vermilion Point
Remote beach at the Vermilion Point Nature Preserve, west of Whitefish Point, home of a historic 1876 U.S. Life-Saving Station. A long, quiet gravel shoreline for agates and banded stones; reach it by gravel road and a short walk. Piping plover nesting area — stay off the marked dunes in summer.

Lake Superior beach known for agates, with camping near Deer Park, west of the Two Hearted River.

Know before you go
- Rock and mineral collecting is NOT allowed inside Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore — look, don't pocket.
- Collecting on Michigan state-owned beaches is allowed in small amounts for personal use (up to 25 lbs per person per year) — never from private property without permission.
- Many roads to Crisp Point and the Two Hearted are gravel; check conditions before you go.
- Cell service is spotty out here — download your maps ahead of time.
- Lake Superior is cold and rough after storms. Keep an eye on the waves.
